Cold enuff

Up early to the coyote chorus, sounded like they were on their way to something important. And at just after 5 am didn't appreciate the music (and it wasn't Christmas music). Got up and ended up getting dressed in living room, was much warmer than my bedroom, will shut window in there tight for tonight, only -15°C and forecast to be -31°C (24°F below zero tonight), ever so grateful for my rice bag to warm my feet (3 minutes in micro, wonderful). How appropriate music playing Theme from a Summer Place. Since I was up so early decided to finish bobbin #2 of the Merino-Nylon mix, got as much on the two bobbins as I could.

The first two pair of LOSY socks I made for Nolan, by the time he got them his feet had grown, so made another pair with an extra 6 rows , the Momma said this pair was perfect, so one more pair. Should now be done with LOSY socks for this bunch.

Thinking a big pot of burger vegetable soup will be on the menu for today, still have carrots, onion, celery, potatoes to go in. Only missing cabbage.

    Thanks for the menu inspiration - today is cold (for Louisiana) and third day of rain in a row. Soup would hit the spot!

    I made that soup this week too. I like a little barley in it. The merino nylon mix is so pretty.

4 more pair on needles, work on each for at least 10 rows every other day before putting it down. Blue pair is farest along and have everything ready for sock #2. Blue pair will be identical all the others fraternal. A couple of nights ago bout 9pm saw a blue heron land in tree just south of the house, watched it preen for some time and when it was to dark for a pix 2 more landed in tree beside the first. Same day saw a kingfisher dive towards the river. Bear activity has cooled down, assume they are over at the Chilko River system fishing for salmon. Last black I saw was just its backside as it headed for the west fence got a quick pix but not worth posting. Nothing much happening in my wild mountain valley these days, some ranchers have finally been able to start cutting hay, and everyone else is hoping for rain. So many bad fires in BC again this season.

Finally got myself to town Dec. 27-28. Prescriptions, haircut, groceries, and most important getting bank Visa problems straightened out. Tried dealing with bank via telephone and both times I connected got someone that wouldn't acknowledge that I was hard of hearing, heavy accents didn't help. Had 7 charges for Play Station almost $1000, since I've never even seen one, wasn't me . Because of all the weird charges they wouldn't activate the new Visa card. A good weather window opened so in I went, took almost an hour getting everything straightened out. Meanwhile when I did get to the grocery store almost filled my buggy with produce and fruit. Had help unloading the car when I got home Thursday 3 ish. Grizzlies

May 30th had a visiting grizzly complete with two yearling cubs, camera at hand got 3 pix before she and cubs wandered off. 2023 season off to a good start, 2 blacks and 3 griz in my yard. Sock knitting continues as always, pix of latest finished pair of Monstersocks. As soon aas they were finished started another pair using a midnight blue Hawthorne from Knit Picks, but instead of Monstersocks am going back to old standby fair-nordic patterns, dk blue will be main colour then orange, med gray, red and white for the patterns. Fairly conservative for my knitting. Went into town on Monday, oil change, checked in at Speedy Glass about a new windshield (come back in a week), picked up my new glasses, then a motel for the night. Tuesday had dentist appointment at 9 am, think its the last for a while, then renewed ICBC (license plate and insurance for another year), picked up some groceries and lastly Kal Tire where I finally got winter tires off my Subie (they go back on October 1).
