This & That

Left last Wednesday (13th) just before lunch time for the big town, first trip into 'the willie' since early December, needless to say I had much to do. First thing I did was get a much needed haircut then took empty water bottles to recycle store. Then up to friends for supper and to stay over. Thursday headed back to town and to Wally World looking for a stainless steel pressure cooker, no luck, tried Canadian Tire and they didn't have one either. Will add it to my to do list for next time I get to Vancouver area. Friday morning I hit SaveOn for groceries, loads of veggies and salad stuff. After almost 8 weeks I was out of lots of staples.

Took in two large bags of laundry, ended up being 4 loads in Denise' machine, so have have clean clothes again. Then ran several sets of slippers to be felted, using my own handspun, all came out even better than I had hoped for. One pair fit Denise so left them with her. One of the colored pair is for Deborah which ever pair fits. Promised for a 'few' years, finally done.

And the first sock of wild & crazies for DF in Vancouver area. Second sock well down the leg and should get to the heel while watching final episode of Downton Abbey (2 hours) tonight.

4 more pair on needles, work on each for at least 10 rows every other day before putting it down. Blue pair is farest along and have everything ready for sock #2. Blue pair will be identical all the others fraternal. A couple of nights ago bout 9pm saw a blue heron land in tree just south of the house, watched it preen for some time and when it was to dark for a pix 2 more landed in tree beside the first. Same day saw a kingfisher dive towards the river. Bear activity has cooled down, assume they are over at the Chilko River system fishing for salmon. Last black I saw was just its backside as it headed for the west fence got a quick pix but not worth posting. Nothing much happening in my wild mountain valley these days, some ranchers have finally been able to start cutting hay, and everyone else is hoping for rain. So many bad fires in BC again this season.

Finally got myself to town Dec. 27-28. Prescriptions, haircut, groceries, and most important getting bank Visa problems straightened out. Tried dealing with bank via telephone and both times I connected got someone that wouldn't acknowledge that I was hard of hearing, heavy accents didn't help. Had 7 charges for Play Station almost $1000, since I've never even seen one, wasn't me . Because of all the weird charges they wouldn't activate the new Visa card. A good weather window opened so in I went, took almost an hour getting everything straightened out. Meanwhile when I did get to the grocery store almost filled my buggy with produce and fruit. Had help unloading the car when I got home Thursday 3 ish. Grizzlies

May 30th had a visiting grizzly complete with two yearling cubs, camera at hand got 3 pix before she and cubs wandered off. 2023 season off to a good start, 2 blacks and 3 griz in my yard. Sock knitting continues as always, pix of latest finished pair of Monstersocks. As soon aas they were finished started another pair using a midnight blue Hawthorne from Knit Picks, but instead of Monstersocks am going back to old standby fair-nordic patterns, dk blue will be main colour then orange, med gray, red and white for the patterns. Fairly conservative for my knitting. Went into town on Monday, oil change, checked in at Speedy Glass about a new windshield (come back in a week), picked up my new glasses, then a motel for the night. Tuesday had dentist appointment at 9 am, think its the last for a while, then renewed ICBC (license plate and insurance for another year), picked up some groceries and lastly Kal Tire where I finally got winter tires off my Subie (they go back on October 1).
